Our free menu bar apps, verified on macOS 27

Our free menu bar apps for Mac, verified on macOS 27 Golden Gate: keep awake, clipboard history, AI usage, timers, system stats and more, in one download.

Full disclosure: every app on this list is ours. They are all free, they were all run on macOS 27 Golden Gate (build 26A428) on a real Mac, and almost all of them are widgets inside one download, Webstarted Toolbox, so you get the whole list for one icon in your menu bar instead of eleven.

Why “works on macOS 27” is not a given this year

macOS 27 changed how a click on a menu bar icon reaches the app behind it. For a whole family of menu bar apps (everything built with Tauri and a tray menu) a left click started opening the right-click menu, and the app never opened. It is not your mouse and not a setting: we wrote up why it happens and how it was fixed. So before installing anything that lives in the menu bar this season, it is worth checking that someone actually ran it on 27. Everything below was.

The list

Keep Awake Caffeine and Amphetamine alternative

Stops your Mac from sleeping, dimming or locking for 1, 2 or 4 hours, or until you turn it off, with the time left visible in the menu bar. It is the same power assertion as the caffeinate command, without keeping a Terminal window open. Keep Awake

Clipboard history the one you will use most

Your recent copies, one keystroke away. Copy three things in a row and paste the first one without going back for it. Clipboard history

LLM Quota for Claude and ChatGPT plans

Paces your AI usage against the clock: tell it when your plan resets and how much you have used, and it tells you whether you will run out before the reset. It never connects to your account. LLM Quota

System Info CPU, memory, GPU

CPU, memory and GPU load in your menu bar, for the moment the fans spin up and you want to know what is doing it. System Info

Pomodoro focus timer

25 minutes of focus, 5 of break, counted in the menu bar where you can see it without switching windows. Pomodoro

World Clocks for remote teams

The time in the cities you work with, at a glance, so “is it too late to message them?” stops being mental arithmetic. World Clocks

Weather no API key

Any city, now and the days ahead, without signing up for anything. Weather in your menu bar

Color Picker for designers and front-end

Pick a color with the system color panel (on macOS it includes a magnifier to grab one from the screen) or paste a hex, and copy it as hex, rgb, hsl or hsv. Offline. Color Picker

My IP IPv4 and IPv6

Your public IPv4 and IPv6, ready to copy, with ISP and approximate location. Handy when checking a VPN. What is my IP

Quick Note a scratchpad that saves itself

A scratchpad that autosaves as you type, for the phone number or the snippet you need for the next ten minutes. Quick Note

Screen Capture separate app, Apple Silicon

Screenshots with annotation and an optional local AI that reads the capture on your own machine. It is its own app, not a Toolbox widget, and on the Mac it needs Apple Silicon. Webstarted Screen Capture

Does any of this work on an Intel Mac?

Intel Macs cannot install macOS 27, but everything on this list except Screen Capture runs on them: Toolbox supports macOS 12 and later and ships a universal build that runs natively on Intel. More on that in Intel Mac stuck on macOS 26?

And there is more in the catalog

These are the ones we would install first. Toolbox has dozens more (timers, converters, a password generator, a diff checker, dev tools), and you add only the ones you want. See every widget.

One free download for everything on this list except Screen Capture. Verified on macOS 27, and still supports macOS 12 and later on Intel and Apple Silicon, plus Windows 10 and later.
