Search your city. That’s the whole setup.
Type a city name and pick yours from the matches — the widget finds it through Open-Meteo’s geocoding, anywhere in the world. From then on it shows the current conditions (temperature, feels-like, humidity, wind, and whether it’s clear, raining or snowing) plus the next days with each day’s high and low. It refreshes on its own every 15 minutes while it’s open, with a refresh button when you want it fresher.
- City search with worldwide coverage — just type a name
- Current conditions: temperature, feels-like, humidity, wind
- 5-day forecast with highs and lows
- Auto-refresh every 15 minutes, plus a manual refresh
Weather without the sign-up.
Most weather widgets make you create an account, paste an API key, or start a subscription before you see a single degree. This one doesn’t, because the data comes from Open-Meteo — an open, free weather API with no key required. The only network calls the widget makes are to Open-Meteo’s public endpoints; there’s no tracking, no sign-in, and it never asks for your GPS location — you tell it a city, it tells you the weather.
- Powered by Open-Meteo — free, open, no API key
- No account, no sign-up, no subscription
- No GPS or location permission — you type your city
- Your city and °C/°F choice are saved on your machine
Same glance. None of the strings attached.
Plenty of weather apps have gone the account-plus-subscription route — and some monetize by collecting the location data you feed them. If all you want is today’s weather and the days ahead, a click away in the menu bar, you don’t need any of that: this widget is free, asks for nothing, and looks up the city you type instead of tracking where you are.
- Free — no premium tier for the forecast
- City search instead of location tracking
- Works on macOS and Windows
Installed from the catalog, in one click.
Weather isn’t bundled into the app — it’s a widget in the Webstarted Toolbox catalog. Open the catalog tab (🧰), press the “+” next to Weather, and it drops into your menu bar. No reinstall, no app update. Here are a few of its neighbors:
Questions, answered.
Do I have to download anything separately?
No. Weather is a widget in the Webstarted Toolbox catalog. Open the catalog tab (🧰) inside the app, hit the “+” next to Weather, and it installs in one click — no separate download, and no app update needed.
Do I need an API key or an account?
No. The weather comes from Open-Meteo’s public API, which is free and doesn’t require a key. There’s nothing to sign up for, nothing to paste, and no subscription — you install the widget, search your city, and it works.
Does it track my location?
No. The widget never asks for GPS or location permissions — you type a city name and it looks it up on Open-Meteo’s public geocoding service. The only network calls it makes are to Open-Meteo, and your chosen city is saved locally on your machine.
How far ahead is the forecast?
You get the current conditions — temperature, feels-like, humidity, wind and the sky (clear, rain, snow…) — plus a 5-day forecast with the high and low for each day. It refreshes on its own every 15 minutes while the widget is open, and there’s a refresh button if you can’t wait.
Can I switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit?
Yes — there’s a °C / °F toggle right in the widget. The wind speed follows along: km/h with Celsius, mph with Fahrenheit.
