How it works

Don’t break the chain — from the menu bar.

Add a habit (with an emoji if you like), then tick it once a day. The 🔥 streak counts your consecutive days, and your longest run is kept as a record. Under each habit, a row of dots shows the last 7 days — forgot to tick yesterday? Click the dot and fix it. Days follow your local timezone, and today gets a grace period: the streak only breaks when a full day actually passes unticked.

  • One click on the check marks today as done
  • 🔥 streak of consecutive days, plus your best-streak record
  • Last-7-days dots — tick or untick any recent day
  • Or switch to the 8-week grid for the longer view
  • As many habits as you want; deleting asks you to confirm
Contribution grid

Eight weeks at a glance — the “green squares” view for your habits.

Seven days tells you about this week. It doesn’t tell you that the gaps always land on Thursdays, or that the streak you’re proud of started right after a three-week hole. So each habit has a second view: flip from 7 days to Grid and you get the last 8 weeks laid out like a contribution graph — one column per week, month labels across the top, ticked days filled in.

Every cell is clickable, so the grid is a way to fix history as well as read it. And the days of the current week that haven’t happened yet are drawn as empty gaps rather than misses: on a Wednesday, Thursday and the weekend aren’t failures you’re already carrying. Only days that actually passed unticked count against you.

  • Switch per habit between 7 days and Grid
  • Last 8 weeks, one column per week, with month labels
  • Clickable cells — fix a day from three weeks ago
  • Future days of this week are gaps, not misses
100% local

Your habits are nobody’s business.

What you’re working on — exercise, reading, drinking water, quitting something — is personal. Habit Tracker keeps every habit and every check-mark on your machine, stored locally by the app. There’s no account to create, no cloud it phones home to, no analytics on your progress, and no subscription meter running. It even works offline.

  • All data stored locally on your computer
  • No account, no sign-in, no cloud sync
  • Works offline — nothing ever leaves the machine
  • Free, with no subscription
Coming from a habit app on your phone?

One click at your desk beats unlocking your phone.

Most habit apps live on your phone, behind a subscription and a cloud account. They’re often more polished — reminders, charts, sync across devices. But if you work at a desktop all day, the honest math is different: ticking a habit here is one click in the menu bar, not unlock-phone-find-app-tap. It’s free instead of a subscription, and local instead of a cloud profile of your routines. If you need cross-device sync or reminders, a phone app still wins — this widget doesn’t do those.

  • Free — no subscription, ever
  • Your data local — no cloud account
  • One click on desktop — no phone unlocking

Part of Webstarted Toolbox

Installed from the catalog, in one click.

Habit Tracker isn’t bundled into the app — it’s a widget in the Webstarted Toolbox catalog. Open the catalog tab (🧰), press the “+” next to Habit Tracker, and it drops into your menu bar. No reinstall, no app update. Here are a few of its neighbors:

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do I have to download anything separately?

No. Habit Tracker is a widget in the Webstarted Toolbox catalog. Open the catalog tab (🧰) inside the app, hit the “+” next to Habit Tracker, and it installs in one click — no separate download, and no app update needed.

Is my data synced or backed up anywhere?

No — and that’s by design. Your habits and check-marks are stored locally by the app on your computer. There’s no account, no cloud, and no sync: nothing ever leaves your machine. The flip side is that your history lives only on that computer, so it isn’t shared to other devices.

How does the 🔥 streak work? What if I miss a day?

The streak counts consecutive days ending today. Today gets a grace period: if you haven’t ticked yet but yesterday is done, the streak holds until the day ends. Miss a full day, though, and it resets to 0 — that’s the “don’t break the chain” pressure. Your longest run is kept as a best-streak record next to each habit.

I forgot to tick yesterday. Can I fix it?

Yes. Every habit shows a row of dots for the last 7 days, and each dot is clickable — tick or untick any of those days retroactively. Days are counted in your local timezone, so “today” is your today, not UTC’s. The 8-week grid view is clickable too, so you can also fix a day from three weeks ago.

Can I see more than the last week?

Yes — switch the view from “7 days” to “Grid” and you get a GitHub-style contribution grid of the last 8 weeks: one column per week, month labels along the top, and every cell clickable. It is the view that shows you the shape of a habit rather than its last few days, which is usually where you notice that every dip lands on the same weekday.

Do the remaining days of this week count as missed?

No. In the grid, days that haven’t happened yet are drawn as empty gaps, not as failures — a Wednesday looking at Thursday, Friday and the weekend should not feel like it is already behind. Only days that have actually passed unticked show as missed.

How many habits can I track, and is it really free?

There’s no limit — add as many habits as you want, each with an optional emoji. Removing one takes a deliberate double-click (tap ×, then confirm), so you won’t wipe a streak by accident. And yes, it’s free: the widget and the Toolbox app cost nothing, with no subscription and no account.
